Nestled in a corner of the Mound City Library is a beautiful piece of history that visitors find truly amazing. The Wooten Patent Desk resembles a cylinder-front desk but actually contains a complete post office. This unit is one of less than 100 that were built after a patent was granted for it in 1874. Moreover, less than 25 of the units are known to still exist and be in good condition. Very fortunate are the patrons of the Mound City Library that Helen Rogers Munson donated the Wooten Patent Desk to the Mound City Library.
